Guide to Authors

  • Instructions to Authors
Chinese Journal of Chromatography, a journal undertaken by Chinese Chemical Society and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, publishes articles in Chinese on chromatography and its inter disciplines. Topics include new or improved analytical separation and preparative methods, development of theories, innovative applications of chromatographic methods and related techniques, electrophoresis, electrochromatography, sample preparation, solid phase extraction and detection methods such as mass spectrometry. Chinese Journal of Chromatography welcomes every researcher’s submission of research papers which report on studies concerning the development of new and advances in chromatographic science and related areas.

    Types of manuscripts
The following types of papers are published in the Chinese Journal of Chromatography:
Communications briefly report new, unusual and significant results or the core content of technical improvements (limited to four printed pages, i.e. 3000 words).
Articles present complete systematic descriptions of innovative investigations or applications. The novel and valuable results of a phase research work are also be reported (around six printed pages, i.e. 4000-5000 words).
Reviews present a general survey of an outstanding subject in chromatography and its related areas and should be combined with the research work of the author’s group (around eight to ten printed pages, i.e. 6000-8000 words). Potential authors will be asked to provide a brief outline of the subject matter of the proposed review. Review articles should be sufficiently broad in scope to appeal to a wide cross-section of the journal's readership, but should be specific enough to permit discussion at an appropriate depth. Above all, reviews should be critical rather than enumerative. Figures and Tables with copyright license are encouraged in review articles.
Technical notes report development and application of new techniques and new instruments, also about renovation and improvement of methods developed before (around three printed pages, i.e. 2000-3000 words).

    Copyright
Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to complete a 'Copyright transfer form'. Acceptance of the agreement will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information. An e-mail will be sent to the corresponding author confirming receipt of the manuscript together with a 'Copyright transferform'. The authors also can download the form from our website.

    Funding source
Authors are need to identify who provided financial support for the conduct of the research. If the funding source(s) had no such involvement then this should be stated in the paper.

    Submission
Submission to this journal proceeds totally online or through the email. You will create and upload your files in the journal’s submission system step by step. All correspondence processes, including notification of the Editor's decision and requests for revision, are carried through the submission system.

    Referees
Authors can submit, with the manuscript, the names, addresses and e-mail addresses of suggested reviewers. We note that the editorial retains the sole right to decide whether or not the suggested reviewers are used. A working e-mail address for each reviewer is essential for rapid review.

    Preparation of manuscripts
Manuscripts should be legibly typed on A4 paper by Microsoft Office Word and clearly identify unusual or handwritten symbols and the block and italic forms of Greek letters.
Manuscripts should be subdivided into the following sequence of sections: title, every author’s name and affiliations(where the actual work was done, complete corresponding address and nationality), Abstract, Key words, Introduction, Experimental section, Results and discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgment, References. A footnote should be included on the first page to give the professional title, educational level, fax number, phone number and email address of the corresponding author and information of funding included the full name and number should be indicated.
The Title should be short (5-30 words), specific, and informative. No abbreviations or trade names should be used in the title.

    Corresponding author
Clearly indicate who is willing to handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication, also post-publication. Ensure that telephone number (with country and area code) are provided in addition to the e-mail address and the complete postal address.

    Abstract
An Abstract (about 150 to 250 words) must be present in the front of every manuscript. It should be independent, self explanatory and intelligible without reference to the text. The abstract should state briefly the purpose and applied method of the research, the principal results and major conclusions. An abstract must be able to stand alone with out references. All of the abbreviations must be written in full when first used.

    Keywords
Immediately after the abstract, Three to eight Keywords should be given below the abstract  and the abbreviations must be avoided. These keywords will be used for indexing purposes.

    Introduction
Provide a description of the background under investigation, state the objectives and the highlight of innovation of the article, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results.

    Experimental conditions
For the main materials and the types of equipments, the manufacturers’ names and the locations should be provided. Provide sufficient detail to allow the work to be reproduced. Methods already published should be indicated by a reference: only relevant modifications should be described.

    Results and Discussions
Results should be clear, precise and concise. This should explore the significance of the results of the work, the relationship between the results and the research,. whether meeting the original expectation, and the similarities and differences with others, etc. A combined Results and Discussion section is often appropriate. Avoid extensive citations and discussion of published literature.

    Conclusions
The main conclusions should briefly report the prospects, limitations, outstanding problems and the further research advice of the work, which may stand alone or form a subsection of the Results and Discussion section.

    Acknowledgements
Acknowledgements should be provided in a separate section at the end of the article before the references, List here those individuals who provided help during the research (e.g., providing language help, writing assistance or proof reading the article, etc.).

    Tables
Self-explanatory tables must be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals respectively. Suitable captions should be given at the top, Place footnotes to tables below the table body and indicate them with superscript lowercase letters. Be sparing in the use of tables and ensure that the data presented in tables do not duplicate results described elsewhere in the article.

    Figure captions
Ensure that each illustration has a caption. A caption should comprise a brief title (not on the figure itself) and a description of the illustration.Photographs should be of sufficiently high quality with respect to detail and contrast. Indicate the magnification by a bar on the photograph.

Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list. Articles in press (have been accepted or be given the DOI number) may be included. Citations should be numbered sequentially in the order in which they are cited in the text. If these references are included in the reference list they should follow the standard reference style of the journal. The names of the journals should be abbreviated according to the World List of Scientific Periodicals. The following are the examples of literature citations:
     (1) Chadha R K, Lawrence J F. J Chromatogr, 1990, 518: 268
     (2) Phillips J B, Liu Z. USP 5 196 039. 1993
