Abstract: Emerging organic pollutants are becoming the focus of current research on environmental issues. Chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (MS) has played key roles in the discovery and analysis of emerging organic pollutants. This review summarizes the developments in chromatography-MS techniques for five important emerging organic pollutants, including perfluorooctanoate/perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOA/PFOS) and other perfluorinated compounds, pharmaceuticals, drinking water disinfection byproducts, pesticide degradation products and new pesticides, and brominated flame retardants. The future trends of chromatography-MS in this field are also discussed.
